For international students, the Petroleum Engineering Department currently offers two distinct university-level programs in Petroleum Engineering.
M.S. for Students with B.S. in Petroleum Engineering
High demand from developing countries necessitated the establishment of this program offered for students having already earned a B.S. Degree in Petroleum Engineering. The program is completely conducted in English and lasts two academic years witht the final year partly used for the compilation of the M.S. Thesis.
Doctor of Philosophy
The Ph.D. program is administered by the Faculty of Earth Sciences and Engineerings of the University of Miskolc. The program comprises four semesters of individual study in the courses prescribed by the Ph.D. Advisor, taking of two final examinations in the relevant disciplines, and submission of a Ph.D. Thesis.
Admission requirements vary in the different programs offered but the general policy is to enroll students with definite intellectual ability and the capacity for independent thought and investigation.
M.S. for Students with B.S. in Petroleum Engineering
Students holding a B.S. Degree in Petroleum Engineering or, exceptionally, in a closely related field are eligible for admission. Applications should be sent to the Petroleum Engineering Department, the documents required are the University Diploma, and the detailed Transcripts of previous studies. Candidates holding B.S. degrees from accredited institutions where the language of tuition is English are eligible to apply.
Doctor of Philosophy
University graduates with an M.S. in Petroleum Engineering can apply for admission to the Ph.D. Program. Candidates must have a GPA of at least 80% and take an entrance examination where sufficient skills in English have to be proved along with a high level of knowledge in higher studies. Applicants must also present their research interests that have to be approved in advance by a faculty of the Petroleum Engineering Department.
Tuition fees vary with the programs and are due on or before the commencement of the semester. The fees cover the cost of basic tuition only and do not cover accommodation, health insurance, and living costs.
The following tuition fees were current at the time of posting and refer to one academic semester.
The above fees are subject to change without prior notice.
Typical living and other expenses in Miskolc are moderate. Accommodation is easily found at reasonable prices through the many agencies active in the town. Food and meals are inexpensive as compared to other European cities. Though total living costs can widely differ due to individual needs of students, typical figures are between US $300 and US $500 per month. Miskolc has excellent medical facilities with several big specialized hospitals.
